- Thomas Murphy enlists. Thomas is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action at Gallipoli on 3 October 1915.
- The French Government begins its return to Paris. It had secretly relocated to Bordeaux on 2 September, amid concerns that the capital would fall to the Germans.
