  • The Russian port of Libau is attacked by a German squadron. Two cruisers and ten torpedoes bombard the city and harbour for over four hours, igniting several fires. Five civilians are killed, two of whom are women; over thirty people are injured.
  • The German cruiser SMS Friedrich Carl collides with two Russian mines in the Baltic Sea. The vessel remains afloat for several hours, allowing for the safe evacuation of most of the crew. Seven sailors are killed.
  • The German 15th Corps makes a final attempt to advance against Allied positions in the contested Ypres Salient area in Belgium
  • Russia bombards the Turkish seaport of Trebizond in the Black Sea
