  • The Leader reports that the Orange Post Office has adopted a new procedure whereby cables to soldiers overseas are now cheaper to send. To Cheapen Cables to Soldiers
  • The German submarine SM U-17 torpedoes the Italian destroyer Impetuoso in the Straits of Otranto in the Lower Adriatic Sea. The Impetuoso, which had been guarding fishing boats, sinks.
  • German troops regain footing in Trones Wood on the Western Front
  • French forces advance towards Peronne, take Hill 97 south-east of Biaches and La Maisonette Farm
  • British troops attack German positions in Mametz Wood and gain ground east of Ovillers on the Somme
