- Ald William Edwin McNeill completes his term of office as mayor of Orange; he is succeeded by William Ernest (Bill) Bouffler
- Recruiting commences for the RAN Brigade (RANB) Naval Guard Section. Recruits were ex Navy or Army personnel who were used to guard Naval dockyards, wharves and shipping in Australian ports. The Naval Guard Section would be demobilized in late 1919; in 1920 RANB personnel formed part of the Royal Australian Naval Reserve (RANR).
