- The Leader reports that church services will be held across the state at midday on 25 April in commemoration of Anzac Day. Those unable to attend a service are requested to remove their hat and cease work for one minute. Anzac Day
- The 4th Australian and 62nd British divisions mount an attack on Bullecourt to assist Allied forces in the Arras offensive. They manage to penetrate the Hindenburg Line but retreat, uncertain how far troops had advanced. The 4th and 12th brigades of the Australian Division suffer 3,400 casualties; 1,170 men are taken prisoner – the largest number in a single action in World War I.
