- Edward Davis [aka Joseph Davis] enlists. Edward is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in Belgium on 28 September 1917.
- German Gotha G.IV bombers conduct the sixth attack of Operation Türkenkreuz on the United Kingdom, bombing Felixstowe and Harwich. Thirteen people are killed and 26 injured, damage is estimated at £2,780. WWI German bombers
- Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Dmitriyevich Sazonov, is dismissed by Tsarina Alexandra following his request to grant Poland autonomy at the end of the war. Sazanov is succeeded by Boris Vladimirovich Stürmer.
