- The Battle of Mount Sorrel begins in Belgium as Germany attempt to capture the high ground around Ypres. British and Canadian forces clash with German troops until 14 June. Allied casualties number more than 8,000; German 5,765.
- The Leader reports that 200,000 items of mail addressed to soldiers serving overseas have been returned to Australia. Destined for soldiers that have been killed or wounded in action, the items are awaiting collection at Victoria Barracks in Sydney. Soldiers’ Letters Returned
