- Charles Alfred Gage enlists. Charles is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 3 December 1916.

- The Fifth Battle of the Isonzo begins in Italy amid fog, snow and rain as Britain and France seek to prevent the Central Powers moving more troops to the Battle of Verdun.
