- German airships resume bombing raids in the United Kingdom. Zeppelins of the Imperial German Navy scatter bombs on East Anglia and the English Midlands. Casualties number 183; 70 dead and 113 injured.
- General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien resigns as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in East Africa. Smith-Dorrien was appointed in November 1915 but was unable to assume command, having contracted pneumonia during the voyage to South Africa. He was replaced by General Jan Christiaan Smuts.
