- German South-West Africa surrenders to South African forces led by General Louis Botha after 11 months of fighting
- Walter William Erickson enlists. Walter is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 12 October 1916.

- The Leader reports that an Australian hospital has opened at Auteuil racecourse in Paris. The 25-bed field hospital is privately and voluntarily run by a small group of Australian women.
