- The Second Battle of Artois ends in France. After several weeks of heavy fighting with many small advances and changes of control of territory, French troops withdraw, having suffered over 100,000 casualties.
- The Leader reports that recruitment rates are on the rise at Victoria Barracks with “short men” taking full advantage of the reduced height limit
- The Leader reports that more men from the Orange Railway staff have answered the call to enlist, including George Henry Bruce. George is commemorated on the Centenary of WWI in Orange Honour Roll; he would be killed in action in France on 7 February 1917. More Railway Recruits
- The Leader reports that Superintendent of Railways in Orange, Captain Milne, has received word that his son, Edmund Osborne Milne, has been appointed Railway Transport Officer in command of the 280-strong Railway Supply detachment in Egypt. Edmund and his men are well, and eager to see action at Gallipoli.
