- The German battle cruiser SMS Blucher is sunk by the British Grand Fleet off the Dogger Bank in the North Sea. SMS Seydlitz is severely damaged. A total of 954 German sailors are killed, 80 are wounded and 189 captured. 15 English sailors die and 32 are wounded. Huntley Film Archives footage.
- The Imperial German Navy suffers its first wartime loss of an airship when PL-19 makes an emergency landing in the Baltic Sea after bombing Libau in Russia. Two Imperial Russian Navy minesweepers capture her seven-man crew and set the ship ablaze.
