- The Australian Labor Party wins the federal election, winning 42 seats to Liberal’s 32 in the House of Representatives. This is the first election to result from a double dissolution of Parliament. Andrew Fisher becomes Prime Minister. During his election campaign Fisher claimed that Australia would support the British war effort ‘to the last man and last shilling.’
- The Pact of London is signed by the Allied powers of France, Britain and Russia, in which all three agree not to sign a separate peace agreement
- German forces reach Claye, just 16kms from Paris
- HMS Pathfinder is sunk by a submarine in the North Sea. This is the first British warship to be sunk by a torpedo from a submarine.
